Intelligent Enterprise

In the early stages of computing, technology primarily focused on automating manual tasks to improve efficiency. Over time, IT innovations enabled new business capabilities, but these advances often operated independently of the overall business strategy. This misalignment led to inefficient use of resources, missed growth opportunities, and a weaker competitive position.

To bridge this gap, Enterprise Architecture was developed as a strategic approach to IT management. Like a blueprint guides the construction of a building, Enterprise Architecture provides a clear framework and roadmap to ensure IT initiatives are closely aligned with business objectives, driving value and competitive advantage.

We at New Dimensional Technologies, provide effective Enterprise Architecture competencies to foster business-IT Alignment by connecting business goals with technology to enable better planning of future IT investments and transformations.

SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework

The SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework consists of five building blocks:

  • Methodology: Proven, TOGAF and industry standards-based EA methodology, widely adopted throughout SAP - The latest version of TOGAF 10 has been taken into consideration.
  • Reference Architecture Content: SAP Reference Business and Solution Architecture mapping Business and SAP IT Solutions - SAP Reference Business and Solution Architecture provides standardized, high quality EA content (APQC based) to describe the complete business scope of enterprises mapped to SAP (reference) solutions.
  • Tooling: Set of SAP-internal and customer-facing architecture tools - SAP EA toolchain consists of solutions like Signavio, CALM, PMG, API Hub which support the authoring and/or publishing and consumption of SAP EA Content.
  • Practice: It is the organizational implementation of EA. It operates enterprise architecture within the organization, by adopting the EA methodology and establishing governance processes incl. change management process for the framework.
  • Services: Standardized SAP EA Services to support customer transformation - A broad range of architecture services is offered to support the digital transformation

SAP Enterprise Architecture Methodology

SAPEA2.jpg
One key cornerstone of the SAP Enterprise Architecture Framework is the reference architecture that allows an accelerated delivery of architecture engagements.

The recommended artifacts of the SAP EA Methodology are classified into four interlinked architecture views: capability, process, data, and organization views. Each view encloses aligned business and IT perspectives, enabling business owners and IT architects to collaborate on new business opportunities.

Having business and IT perspectives closely interlinked allows seamless navigation from business capabilities and business processes all the way down the line to SAP products and implementation artifacts such as APIs, iFlows, data objects, and events. The integration between SAP solutions is depicted on a semantical as well as a technical level. It enables alignment and consistency across SAP solutions and supports integration with non-SAP solutions.
